Stewardship Committee
Some random thoughts about Stewardship at St. Dominic's parish:
The Stewardship Committee has now been put in place and active as of June 2007. To implement this program, I have been consienciously writing about stewardship in each of my weekly letters to the parish in the bulletin; I have been talking informally about stewardship within the varioius groups of the parish; I've been attending varioius workshops; and conducted an educational series for Lent 2007 on Stewardship and Christian Financial Responsibility for the whole parish. From my study, I've discovered that Catholic Stewardship is all about living graciously the vocation of beatitude in the world.
The women and men of the Stewardship Committee are dedicated and who will embrace the ideals of stewardship and promote them within the parish. Working closely with the pastor and the Finance and Pastoral Councils, the Stewardship Committee is considering planning educational opportunities for the parish, developing and executing programs of prayer, volunteering, and financial giving within the parish. They are also looking into developing and promoting a plan of personal tithing and parish tithing. In some ways, this committee would be at the hub of St. Dominic's spiritual center. Initially, membership would be "open" then determined through the creation of by-laws. It could be a very exciting committee to be a part of!
Stewardship is more than about money. It is about living generously our vocation as Catholic Christian. It is about love, trust, honesty, integrity, faith and hope. It leads us to an understanding of sharing with others the most valuable things we possess: time, talent and treasure -- in deed, our very selves. So, let us love one another as profoundly as God first loved us through the sending of the Son to bring redemption to our world.
